Four illegal aliens were among the five men who brutally gang-raped a New York City woman.
The woman described her ordeal in a scathing letter to state Supreme Court Justice Randall Eng, saying the men carried out their attack like "a pack of wild wolves in search of their prey."
"They punched me so hard that I was knocked to the floor," the 43-year-old victim wrote before Eng sentenced one of her attackers Thursday, Victor Cruz, to 21 years in prison, the New York Post reported.
"They savagely dragged me like an animal, like a piece of furniture, and took me to a secluded area of the park, a hut, a foul place that smelled so bad that not even animals should be made to be there, where I was brutally and repeatedly raped by five or more men," she said of the Dec. 19, 2002 attack.
The New York paper said Cruz, Luis Carmona, Carlos Rodriguez, Armando Juvenal and José Hernandez pleaded guilty in December to rape and kidnapping charges in exchange for sentences of 20 to 23 years.
"This is a crime that can only be described as one of blood-chilling inhumanity," Eng told Cruz, 22, who apologized to the woman, according to the Post.
All of the attackers, except Carmona, were in the United States illegally, the New York daily said, which prompted criticism from groups who charge the Immigration and Naturalization Service consistently fails to deport dangerous illegals.
The victim, a mother of two, said she is afraid to go out, has nightmares and is unable to sleep.
"I feel depressed and sad most of the time, and cannot even perform simple activities a lot of times," she wrote.
The attack took place in Queens at 9:30 p.m. on a walkway connecting the National Tennis Center to Shea Stadium.
According to the New York Daily News, she was sitting on a bench with her boyfriend after a dinner date when suddenly they were surrounded by about nine men who "acted like a pack of wild wolves," grabbing her while they punched and kicked her 37-year-old boyfriend.
She was dragged to a shantytown along the Long Island Rail Road tracks where at least three of the men lived and was sexually tortured for three hours before being rescued by police, the Daily News said.
Juvenal, Carmona and Rodriguez are to be sentenced next Thursday. Hernandez will undergo a psychiatric exam and be sentenced next month.
The victim is suing the city and the Metropolitan Transit Authority for $50 million.
In a brief statement, Cruz apologized for the attack.
"I hope she will one day be able to overcome this nightmare," he said.
